If you walked into the Sergeants Mess Hall last Thursday, you were instantly met with the smell of fresh, buttery popcorn and sweet hot chocolate. Your eyes feasted on the beautifully decorated tree and foyer while being serenaded by some of the talented theatre enthusiasts.
This was the feeling last week when our very own Theatre Camp kids performed their first curated play Merry & Mischievous. Check out what the kids’ favourite part about the 8 week program was.
“My favourite part was meeting new people and making the sets.” – Imogen | Inspector Cane
“Making mischief!” – Saana | Chester The Tuxedo Cat
“My favourite part was learning more about what goes on behind the scenes in theatre and getting more experience for theatre. I’m doing the Lion King soon at Susanna Moody Secondary.” – Micheala | Narrator
“What my favourite part was this time and what it is every time is getting to change my personality to be like other characters.” – Maya | Tally
“That’s really hard. My favourite part about this particular play is being able to have a whole big speech and put a lot of feeling into it.” – Alice | Inspector Cane
Over the course of the 8 weeks, the theatre group learned all the ins and outs of theatre, from set design to production to acting and vocal exercises. They came up with the play entirely on their own, worked together as a team and even helped with handing out programs, working the refreshment table and greeting the audience.
Thank you to those who donated canned food items and winter clothing at the play. All items went to Gleaners Food Bank in Belleville. Gleaners operates the Tri-County Warehouse that serve multiple food banks across the tri-county area, including here in Prince Edward County.
