Base31 Community Update – March 2026
Over the past five years, Base31 has continued to grow into a place where history, creativity, and community come together. What was once a former air base is now home to concerts, markets, food and beverage experiences, family programming, exhibitions and opportunities to explore the site’s history, welcoming tens of thousands of local residents and visitors from across the region to our community each season. Over that time, the site has welcomed a growing mix of cultural programming, community partnerships, and local businesses that contribute to the broader Prince Edward County economy. None of this would be possible without the many people—staff, tenants, partners, and neighbours—who help shape this space every day while respecting and enhancing the historical significance of Base31.
As our site evolves, we know people have questions, and we appreciate the opportunity to address them.
Why were there recent staffing changes?
As Base31 moves from its start-up planning and development phase into one centered on stable growth and expansion, we’ve adjusted our team structure to reflect the work required in this next chapter. The difficult decision to eliminate some roles was not made lightly. However, it was based on long-term sustainability and was not related to individual performance. We care deeply about the people who contribute to Base31, and we are grateful for the dedication of everyone who has helped build Base31 into what it is and will be.
Today, the large majority of our team remains with us and continues to support programming, food and beverage services, site operations, and upcoming projects, along with the many functions that keep Base31 running day to day. Our recent job postings simply represent seasonal needs and new operational roles.
Is the site safe?
Yes. Health and safety are central priorities in how the site is managed.
Base31 undergoes routine environmental review as part of normal and responsible redevelopment. Independent environmental experts complete all required assessments, and any construction or work that affects the land can only proceed once municipal and provincial authorities confirm it is safe to do so.
Soil and groundwater testing has already been undertaken, and current site activities meet all applicable regulatory health and safety standards. This process will continue for every phase of future development to ensure the protection of both people and the environment.
We are deeply committed to careful stewardship of the land and the safety of all those who enjoy it.
What’s ahead for Base31?
Our focus remains on creating a vibrant, welcoming space where people can gather, create, work, and connect. While growth naturally brings change, our values and commitment to the community remain the same.
We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing updates and new initiatives soon. If you have questions or are interested in learning more about Base31, please visit our website at Base31.ca, or reach out to us at info@base31.ca.
