Friends & Family Dance Adventure
Come on your own or bring some buddies to Flight Festival’s “Friends & Family Dance Adventures for all ages! Join Leader Arwyn Carpenter on Sundays this summer having fun in the sun. Arwyn specializes in helping everyone feel good in their dancing bodies. You’ll learn simple moves to familiar songs and you’ll be invited to explore a range of movement qualities and expressions in a way that is JOYFUL, PHYSICAL and FUN.
Arwyn Carpenter is a queer trans dancer, writer and dance educator devoted to decolonized art making. Arwyn holds an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a BEd from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute Studies in Education, and they taught in the Elementary division for the Toronto District School Board for 10 years, winning awards for Excellence in Elementary Education and Arts Teacher of the Year, 2017. Arwyn is a skilled dance educator with experiences accumulated over 25 years at the former Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, York University and Canada’s National Ballet School. Arwyn studied for a year with the wisdom keepers of Tkaronto’s Kapapamahchakwew – Wandering Spirit School. Arwyn is one of five co-creators of the Flight Festival. They are an artist member of the Department of Illumination and the PEC Arts Artist Advisory Committee.
