Get hooked on learning the basics of traditional rug hooking with Bear Epp of Common Craft. In this beginners’ workshop, Bear guides you through the essentials of rug hooking with group demonstrations and one-on-one instruction in an environmentally responsible, time-honoured process revered in making artworks and heirlooms. Working on an 8″ x 9.5″ pattern inspired by the Base 31 barracks, you will learn everything you need to complete your Barrack Beauty at home. No prior rug hooking knowledge or experience is necessary. Ages 16+

The Workshop fee includes the following:

  • An 8″ x 9.5 ” pre-drawn pattern on linen.
  • Pre-cut wool strips
  • Finishing yarn to complete the project

Note:
Hoops & hooks are only provided for use by participants during the workshop.
Please come with your personal scissors, pen & notepad, and packed lunch!

About Bear:
With a background in Craft & Design, Bear Epp has worked in the creative industry for over three decades as an artist, arts programmer, teacher and creative director. She has exhibited her work in Canada and internationally. Dedicated to building community through the creative exchange, Bear facilitates rug hooking workshops and retreats in Ontario. She is co-curator of Hooked Rug Hooking Retreat and Handhooked Current, an online space for highlighting the works of contemporary rug, tufting, and punch hooking artists and makers. Bear draws inspiration from her Mennonite heritage and lived experience when creating her own contemporary folk designs.
