John Alcorn: A Gershwin Songbook

  • Sergeants Mess Hall
  • Friday, October 10
  • 7:30PM
  • $39 – $59 plus fees + taxes
Experience a spectacular evening at the Sergeants Mess Hall as John Alcorn returns, this time, honouring the legendary George Gershwin. With his signature artistry and deep rooted reverence for jazz history, Alcorn pays tribute to one of America’s most influential and beloved composers.

George Gershwin (1898-1937)
Born in Brooklyn, the second of four children from a close-knit immigrant family, he began his musical career as a song-plugger on Tin Pan Alley but was soon writing his own pieces. In 1924, George collaborated with his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin, on a musical comedy “Lady Be Good”. This partnership would continue for the rest of the composer’s life. Today he remains one of America’s most beloved popular musicians, with a catalogue including They Can’t Take That Away From Me, Love Is Here to Stay, Embraceable You, and Someone to Watch Over Me.

Hailed by The Toronto Star as “one of our finest interpreters of the great American songbook,” John Alcorn will guide audiences through Gershwin’s iconic catalog, from beloved standards to hidden gems.

Join us for an intimate, soulful celebration of a music legend.
