July At A Glance

Welcome to summer at Base31.

We have a variety of exciting performances taking place in July across three venues.

DRILL HALL

Bahamas bring their indie-rock sound to Base31 this Saturday, July 6. Lead singer, Afie Jurvanen, isn’t from the Bahamas, though – he’s a Finnish Canadian from Barrie, Ontario. Since 2009, he’s been making music under the name Bahamas – writing songs about sunsets, love affairs, and making out with crooked smiles. Don’t miss their show! Last minute tickets are still available.

The Strumbellas take the RBC Stage on Saturday, July 13 with featured opener and fellow indie-rock performer Wayley. Take in new songs you’ve never heard before while enjoying fan favourites like Spirits. The Juno Award-winning band’s new album, Part Time Believer, is out now wherever you get your music.

We’re thrilled to partner with BigLake to bring you Art of Time Ensemble’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on Wednesday, July 24. This one-of-a-kind show is perfect for the whole family, especially if you’re a Beatles fan. For the last 25 years, Art of Time Ensemble has been on the cutting edge of the performing arts in Canada. Their mission? To engage diverse audiences in powerful arts experiences through the performances, collaborative endeavours, and curatorial vision of its Artistic Director, Andrew Burashko.

Half Moon Run closes out the month on Saturday, July 27. Their latest album, Salt, came out last year and the Montreal-based folk rock band is not slowing down anytime soon. Across Salt, you’ll find the roots of Half Moon Run’s beginnings, in an album that reaches into the future.

SERGEANTS MESS HALL

The County’s own Miss Emily takes the stage this Friday, June 5. In a recent interview with 99.3 County FM, she reflected on familiar County faces when she took the stage at establishments like The Waring House. Will you be a familiar face in the audience this Friday? We hope so! Check out the full interview here which features her original song, Hold Back The River

County Stage and Base31 bring you a beautiful, summer event Sunday, July 7 with Cabaret Brunch: Holden & Finn – Golden Age Musical Duo. Two-time Broadway World Best Cabaret Toronto winners Amy Holden and Tom Finn are Canadian crooners who will swing you back to the Golden Age of music with their charming ode to old Hollywood. Singing the legendary songs of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Louis Prima & many more.

Hawksley Workman returns to the Sergeants Mess Hall on Friday, July 12! Don’t miss your chance to see this phenomenal JUNO Award-winning and Gold Record-certified singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist perform some of his groundbreaking smash hits.

Magic meets music in Lucy Darling in Indulgence: An Incredible Evening of Magic and Laughter on Friday, July 13. The reigning stage magician of the year, Lucy Darling, has won the world over for her wit, her charm, and her exceptionally good hair. Evoking comparisons to everyone from Dame Edna to Pee Wee Herman, this edgy, postmodern character is a doubleshot of magical mischief, with a splash of old Hollywood and a dash of Dorothy Parker.

Amy Armstrong + Mark Hartman round two! The duo first take the Sergeants Mess Hall stage on Saturday, July 20. Legends in the world of cabaret and musical theatre, Armstrong and Hartman were both recently honoured as Favorite Live Entertainers at the We Are Puerto Vallarta Awards. Amy captivates audiences effortlessly and is widely known as having the mouth of a sailor and the voice of an angel.

Join us for Cabaret Brunch: Amy Armstrong + Mark Hartman – A Breast Cancer Fundraiser in Support of PECMHF’s Mammography Campaign, which takes place on Sunday, July 21.

Base31 is covering the artist and food costs to produce the event, so that funds raised can go directly towards the hospital’s Mammography Campaign. Many thanks to the wonderful team at Quinte Health and PECMH Foundation for their important work raising funds to support this vital need in our community.

Barbra Sings Bacharach returns on Friday, July 26 with Barbra Lica and Brian Barlow revisiting the hits of Burt Bacharach. Hear the songs you love like you’ve never heard them before.
