Contribute to a large scale public art sculpture being installed this summer

In early May of this year we issued a call out for artists to submit their visions for sculptures in our soon to be completed ‘Aviators Garden’ – a public art garden for anyone and everyone to enjoy.

The idea is you visit Base31 to take in the immense history and scale of the site but also to take a deep breath and enjoy a relaxing stroll while you admire public art.

Co-Creation

Through one of our key principles and practices – co-creation we are slowly transforming the landscape of this iconic site. Base31 is working in partnership with artists and performers to create immersive spaces for thoughtful contemplation, spontaneous connection, playfulness and moments of spectacle.

Two of these spectacles are soon to be revealed. The first is the works of the 7 artists selected for our Natures Aviators Call – these are 7 artworks to be installed outdoors on one of our barracks. These are extremely talented artists we are thrilled to be collaborating with.

The second moment of spectacle is coming later this season. We can’t reveal who the artist is yet but we can give you some hints. She is a Canadian sculptor and artist, whose work has been recognized globally.  She is best known for massive, dynamic sculptures she makes from

We Need your CLEAN Cardboard

This is where you come in! The artist making a large-scale outdoor sculpture at Base31 is using recycled cardboard.

We need as much clean cardboard as we can get our hands on! If you have cardboard that you don’t need – drop it off with us! Come by July 9th to our community day and open house!

On Saturday July 9th at 12pm we are hosting an Open House and welcoming the community through our doors to witness some of the transformation in progress and to enjoy the many vendors, installations and activations happening that day – free – for all.

At 12:30pm that same day we will be revealing the final installed works of the 7 artists selected for Natures Aviators. Come to meet the artists and admire their works.
