Journey Through the History of Prince Edward County with Peter Lockyer

We invite you to come and discover historical PEC stories. Enjoy a 75-minute presentation and a 30-minute walking tour (optional) by History Lives Here, Peter Lockyer. The presentations will include the early history of the area as a hunting and fishing ground for Indigenous Peoples, early settlement by Loyalist refugees fleeing the American Revolution, the region’s rise as a major agricultural area exporting barley for the U.S. brewing industry and its dominance as the centre of the canning industry in Canada from the 1880s to the 1960s. Hear the compelling stories of the war years when the British Royal Air Force trained pilots and gunners as part of the war effort, to the County’s current presence as Canada’s newest wine region and a major tourist destination.

Peter Lockyer is a journalist and a local historian. Originally from Picton, Peter travelled the world documenting Canada’s relief and development efforts. Upon his return to his hometown in 2000, he began documenting its rich history through his company, History Lives Here Inc.
